First statement following the meeting between Ümit Özdağ and Özgür Özel

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel hosted Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ at the CHP Headquarters. Several senior officials from both the CHP and the Victory Party also attended the meeting.

CHP leader Özel was accompanied by CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke and Deputy Chairmen Gül Çiftci, Gamze Taşcıer, and Aylin Nazlıaka.

The Victory Party delegation included the following individuals:

Victory Party Secretary General Cezmi Polat, Victory Party Deputy Chairman for Health Policies Prof. Dr. Ali Şehirlioğlu, Victory Party Deputy Chairman for Legal Affairs Attorney Murat Yıldız, and Victory Party Deputy Chairwoman for Women, Family, and Child Policies Esmaül Hüsna Aslan.

During the meeting between Ümit Özdağ and Özgür Özel, a decision was made to collaborate on preparing a legislative proposal regarding withdrawal from the Ottawa Treaty and expanding the authority of military units at the border to use force.

Regarding the visit, CHP Chairman Özel stated, "We primarily discussed the Sinan Ateş murder. I shared my view that such a murder must not be covered up. We had the opportunity to converse on this matter. We will do everything in our power to ensure the Sinan Ateş murder is not swept under the rug."

Addressing the tensions in Kayseri that began with the burning of homes and businesses belonging to Syrians, Özel said, "Turkey has a problem with irregular migration and illegal immigrants, and we stated after the election process concluded that we, as the CHP, would take the strongest initiative to resolve this issue. Today, Turkey has a refugee problem that must be solved."

Stating, "Those who reacted when we said 'talk to Assad' in the past have now reached the point of saying 'we can take a vacation'," Özel expressed that the European Union must take responsibility regarding refugees, emphasizing the need to engage in talks with Bashar al-Assad and ensure stability in Syria.

'AUTHORITY OF MILITARY UNITS AT THE BORDER TO USE WEAPONS SHOULD BE EXPANDED'

Taking the floor after Özgür Özel, Ümit Özdağ stated, "The most important agenda of our country is undoubtedly the 13 million refugees and illegal migrants living here, with 1,000-1,200 people entering Turkey through our borders every day and dispersing to various provinces. We had some concrete proposals requiring legal regulations regarding stopping them and reducing this number, and we have conveyed these." 

Stating that they proposed Turkey's withdrawal from the Ottawa Treaty and the expansion of the authority of military units at the border to use weapons through a new legal regulation, Özdağ said, "The purpose of the meeting was for Turkey to be safer. In this direction, I hope that our discussions will continue."

MADE THE 'GREY WOLF' SIGN

When asked about the "grey wolf" sign made by Turkish national team player Merih Demiral after the goal he scored in the match against Austria at the European Football Championship (EURO 2024), Victory Party Chairman Özdağ made the "grey wolf" sign himself.

Özdağ said, "This has been the sign of the Turkish nation for 2,000 years. Those who meet in the steppe make the Grey Wolf sign to show each other that they are Turks. It has nothing to do with any political party. Turks living in northern Afghanistan do it, as do those living in northern Siberia. Tens of thousands of people do it in Tabriz. It would be more appropriate for the German state to deal with those making Hitler salutes rather than those making the grey wolf sign."
