Former AKP deputy Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı, known in the public eye by the nickname "Yeliz," targeted the Republic with scandalous remarks in a post on his social media account, calling it the "1923 coup."
In his post, Çamlı used the following expressions:
"The Noble Nation and the Great State, which possess an ancient history, cannot advance on the path to a New, Terror-free, and Great State without settling accounts and reconciling with the bloody 1923 coup..! A whistle must be blown, and a new, honorable, and clean page must be turned..!"

While public reaction poured in against Çamlı's scandalous remarks, the first statement came from the AKP.
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, in a post on his X account, stated "The Republic of Turkey is the apple of our eye," without mentioning Çamlı by name.
"The Republic of Turkey is the apple of our eye. It is the current existence and name of our nation's great march through history. Our Republic is the manifestation of our will to live freely, which our nation demonstrated in our War of Independence. Our greatest ideal is to lead our Republic to the goals of the Century of Turkey, as declared by our President. The Republic of Turkey will remain forever."
