With a decision signed yesterday by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, new appointments were made to certain positions.

Following the retirement of Durmuş Ali Arslan due to health reasons, Mayor Böcek's nephew, Cemil Böcek, was appointed to the vacant position of Deputy Secretary General.

Cemil Böcek, who has worked with Muhittin Böcek since his time at the Konyaaltı Municipality, was also serving as the Head of the Information Technology Department at the Metropolitan Municipality.

STATEMENT REGARDING THE REASON FOR THE APPOINTMENT

Barış Yarkadaş, who directed questions to Muhittin Böcek regarding the appointment decision that has come to the agenda, shared the following:

I can summarize what Böcek said as follows:

“Cemil Böcek is not my direct nephew; he is a distant relative. He is a talented professional who is an expert in his field.

Upon our request, he closed his company and came to the Konyaaltı Municipality to serve the public.

Everyone is a witness to the fact that he works at a very intense pace. He has taken on many responsibilities during his time working here. Mr. Cemil had already been serving as a Department Head for 6 years. It is not accurate to portray it as if he just arrived at the municipality today.”

Böcek continued as follows:

“The professional backgrounds and stories of people who are left under suspicion with a few short sentences should be known.

It is significant that a description of “nephew” is made that is far from the facts.

I do not want to occupy the public agenda with this version of the matter during such a period that the country is going through.”
