Flash development in the village where economist Korhan Berzeg, missing for nearly a year, lived
Korhan Berzeg, an economist and former World Bank Asia Director, has been unreachable for nearly a year. Berzeg, who went for a walk with his dog Tina on June 17, seemingly vanished into thin air. Nearly a year later, skeletal remains believed to belong to a human were found near the village where Berzeg lived.

A new development has occurred in the case of 83-year-old Korhan Berzeg.
While the case of the missing economist Korhan Berzeg, known throughout Turkey, remains a mystery, bone fragments and personal items believed to be human were found today in a wooded area 5 kilometers from Berzeg's home.
The gendarmerie and crime scene investigation teams arrived at the scene and have completed their work.
The items recovered from the scene have been sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine morgue to determine whether they belong to Korhan Berzeg. The Public Prosecutor's Office and the gendarmerie have launched a wide-ranging investigation into the incident.
The mystery of the incident will be clarified following the examination of the scene by the prosecutor's office and the gendarmerie, as well as DNA testing.
Clothing fragments and credit cards were also found next to the skeleton.
Berzeg had gone for a walk in the forest with his dog Tina on June 17; his dog returned home 74 days later, and there had been no news of him for 312 days.
STATEMENT FROM THE BALIKESIR GOVERNOR'S OFFICE REGARDING KORHAN BERZEG
The Balıkesir Governor's Office announced that the area where clothing fragments and bone pieces, assessed to belong to economist Korhan Berzeg who went missing in the Gönen district about a year ago, were found has been placed under investigation and that research activities are continuing.
In the statement made by the Balıkesir Governor's Office, it was stated: "On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at approximately 13:30, bank and identification cards belonging to Korhan Berzeg, who left his summer house in Armutlu Neighborhood, Gönen district, Balıkesir province, on June 17, 2023, at approximately 08:30 to go for a walk with his dog Tina and did not return, along with clothing fragments and various bone pieces assessed to belong to Korhan Berzeg, were found by villagers in a stream bed with rugged terrain and dense forest cover, approximately 3,500 meters (2 km as the crow flies) from Armutlu Neighborhood.
The area where the materials and bone fragments were found has been placed under investigation by Crime Scene Investigation teams and gendarmerie units under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor, and research activities are ongoing.”
