Flood hits the province: Schools closed

Heavy rainfall and storms that began during the night in Antalya negatively affected life in many of the city's districts, particularly in Döşemealtı. As the rainfall intensified in the early morning hours, main roads and agricultural lands turned into lakes, and drivers in particular struggled to navigate the roads. Due to heavy water accumulation, an ambulance was left helplessly stranded on the road, and vehicles were unable to move on some water-covered roads.

It was reported that numerous agricultural lands in the Kundu region were submerged. Meanwhile, a bull carcass, thought to have been swept into the sea at the world-famous Konyaaltı Beach, was removed from the area with the help of a crane after being spotted by coastal cleaning crews.

SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO PICNIC AREAS IN ALANYA

Following the heavy rainfall in Alanya, material damage occurred at picnic businesses around Dimçayı. As the water level of the stream rose, gazebos and various items along the banks were swept away by the current into the sea. Following the incident, business owners flocked to the beach at night to collect and transport their belongings by truck.

Additionally, as a result of the Oba Stream overflowing, some roads in Alanya were closed to traffic, and the gardens and ground floors of two residential complexes were flooded. While local residents tried to leave their homes using their own means, most of the vehicles stuck in the water were rescued by construction equipment. Citizens on upper floors watched the events unfold with concern.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE SCHOOL CLOSURE

Following the heavy rainfall, official statements made by the Antalya Governor's Office and district governorates announced that education in all schools in 7 districts would be suspended for one day on Friday, February 13, 2026. The districts where schools are temporarily closed were listed as Alanya, Gazipaşa, Kaş, Kumluca, Finike, Demre, and Kemer, respectively. The decision covers all public and private educational institutions.

While warnings have been issued that the adverse weather conditions across the city may continue, citizens are urged not to go out unless necessary. Meanwhile, teams continue their efforts to assess damage in the regions and intervene in affected areas.
