MAYOR SANİYE FIÇI: NO LOSS OF LIFE OR PROPERTY

It is alleged that the fire started due to sparks flying while highway crews were cutting metal poles along the İzmir-Foça highway. The fire spread over a very large area, fueled by the wind in the region. The living quarters of the Foça Open Penal Institution were evacuated.

Speaking to 12punto about the latest situation in the region, Foça Mayor Saniye Fıçı said there was no loss of life or property in the fire. Fıçı stated, "A fire had broken out near the prison; thank God it has been extinguished and cooling work is continuing. The fire is currently under control."
