The fog, which intensified in the early hours of the morning off the coast of the strait, caused visibility at sea to drop.
The Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Services Directorate announced via radio broadcast to the captains of ships navigating from the north and south that the strait was closed to two-way transit ship traffic as of 06:17 AM.
GESTAŞ AŞ, which operates ferry services in the Dardanelles and on island routes, also suspended ferry services on the two aforementioned lines due to the fog that began at night and intensified in the morning, causing visibility to decrease significantly.
SERVICES RETURN TO NORMAL
In its announcement, GESTAŞ AŞ stated that after the fog partially dissipated, services on the Çanakkale-Kilitbahir line resumed at 10:30 AM and on the Çanakkale-Eceabat line at 12:00 PM.
It was announced that services will depart from Eceabat on even hours and from Çanakkale on odd hours.
Transit ship traffic, which had been suspended in both directions, is expected to return to normal now that the fog has dissipated.
