Following the launch of an investigation into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu over his remarks regarding Akın Gürlek, it has been reported that an investigation has also been initiated against those who shared the same content on social media.

The statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following:
"Following the ex officio investigation launched today (20/01/2025) against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for the crimes of 'threat' and 'targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism' due to his remarks during a program he attended, which were deemed threatening toward Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Mr. Akın Gürlek and his family, a separate investigation has been initiated regarding those who made similar posts on Twitter and similar platforms."
