Footage of evacuation from sunken boat in Marmaris emerges

New footage has emerged regarding the rescue of 148 people from a tour boat that took on water and sank off the coast of Akvaryum Bay in the Marmaris district of Muğla. In the footage recorded by a mobile phone camera, it can be seen that the passengers were quickly evacuated with the help of nearby boats, and the vessel sank shortly thereafter.

EVACUATION REFLECTED ON MOBILE PHONE CAMERA

The events that took place during the transfer of the passengers on the boat to nearby vessels were recorded by citizens in the area using mobile phone cameras. The footage shows that the evacuation efforts were completed in a short time and the passengers were safely taken onto other boats. After the evacuation was completed, the tour boat submerged.

While there were no deaths or injuries in the incident, the passengers were safely transported to the shore.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The Muğla Governor's Office stated in a release following the incident that the process is being closely monitored.

The statement included the following: "On Friday, May 29, 2026, a report was received that a tour boat with a total of 148 people on board, including 120 adults, 20 children, and 8 crew members, had begun taking on water off the coast of Akvaryum Bay in the Marmaris district. Under the coordination of the teams dispatched to the region following the report, our citizens on the boat were safely evacuated with the support of nearby vessels. Checks confirmed that there were no deaths, injuries, or health issues. Our evacuated citizens were safely transported to the shore. Investigations and necessary procedures regarding the incident are being carried out by our Marmaris District Governorship and our Coast Guard Command."

The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
