Footage of the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Fico emerges

Footage of the armed attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has emerged, and it has been stated that the attacker is 71-year-old Slovak poet and activist Juraj Cintula.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was the target of an armed attack, and footage of the incident has emerged, while it has been stated that the attacker is 71-year-old Slovak poet and activist Juraj Cintula.

In the footage, it is seen that Cintula fired multiple shots at Fico as he approached citizens behind a security barrier, and that Fico fell to the ground.

During his interrogation, Cintula, who was taken into custody following the attack, reportedly said, "I do not like the government's policies" and "The media has been liquidated. Why was the Slovak Radio and Television attacked? Why was the media rendered dysfunctional?"

"THE ATTACK IS BELIEVED TO BE POLITICAL"

Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok and Defense Minister Robert Kalinak held a joint press conference at the hospital in Banská Bystrica where Fico was taken.

Kalinak stated that Fico is still in surgery and fighting for his life, noting that Fico's condition is "truly serious" and that the "situation is bad."

Kalinak announced that 3 hours have passed in Fico's surgery and that everything is in the hands of the doctors.

Estok stated that they suspect the motivation for the attack was political and invited citizens and the media to refrain from hateful posts and actions following the attack.

Estok said that the attacker fired 5 shots and that Fico was shot in the abdomen.

"I AM ALARMED"

In a written statement released following the assassination attempt, US President Joe Biden said, "I am alarmed by the news of the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Jill and I are praying for his speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of Slovakia. We condemn this horrific act of violence. Our embassy is in close contact with the government of Slovakia and is ready to assist."
