An attempted attack was carried out on the Ministry of Interior in Ankara around 09:30 on the day the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye was set to open.
The attackers, who were inside a gray vehicle with license plate 38 TP 962, opened fire on the police officers at the security gate in front of the ministry. A clash broke out after the police responded immediately. One of the terrorists who carried out the attack blew themselves up, while the other terrorist was neutralized. The bomb was detonated in a controlled manner. A rocket launcher was found next to the vehicle.
Making a statement after the attack, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated the following;
“Around 09:30, 2 terrorists who came to the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Interior in a light commercial vehicle carried out a bomb attack. One of the terrorists blew themselves up, and the other terrorist was neutralized. During the exchange of fire, 2 of our police officers were slightly injured. I wish our heroes a speedy recovery.”

MINISTER YERLIKAYA VISITED THE INJURED POLICE OFFICERS
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya visited the injured police officers Erkan Karataş and Alim Reis Demirel, who are receiving treatment at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Ibn-i Sina Hospital. Making statements upon leaving, Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that the attempted bomb attack was thwarted thanks to the efforts of the police, and said:
“We are grateful to them. Our brother Erkan is slightly injured; we spoke with him. We conveyed our get-well wishes. We conveyed the greetings and get-well wishes of both our President, our dear nation, and his colleagues. Our brother Alim Reis has just arrived in intensive care; he is conscious.
Under the supervision of our doctors, he was spoken to; our friends say he is a strong, robust brother of ours and is moderately injured. We gave this good news to his family; in a little while, his precious wife, mother, and father will convey their get-well wishes to our brother Alim Reis under the supervision of the doctors.”
