Footage of the truck disaster in İzmir has emerged

Security camera footage has emerged of the accident in the Bornova district of İzmir, where 1 police officer was martyred, 2 people lost their lives, and 10 vehicles collided. The footage shows the terrifying moments when the out-of-control truck crossed the median and plowed into oncoming traffic.

The accident occurred around 16:30 in front of the 57th Artillery Brigade near the Evka-3 junction in the Bornova district. According to the information obtained, the truck with license plate 45 KB 8376 went out of control after the driver lost steering control, crossed into the opposite lane, and struck 10 vehicles, including a police patrol car.

1 police officer martyred, 3 lives lost in total

In the accident, which turned the scene into a war zone, police officer Serkan Hızlı (34) was martyred, while the other police officer in the same vehicle was seriously injured. The driver of the truck that caused the accident and a motorcyclist lost their lives at the scene. In the tragic incident, which resulted in a total of 3 deaths and 4 injuries, it was learned that one of the injured remains in critical condition.

No signs of braking found

A comprehensive investigation launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the horrific accident is ongoing. Initial findings by 1 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and 2 Public Prosecutors assigned to the scene indicated that no signs of braking by the truck were found at the accident site. While technical examinations by an expert committee consisting of traffic and mechanical engineers are continuing both at the scene and on the vehicles involved in the accident, it was reported that necessary investigations have also been initiated regarding whether the load carried by the truck was overweight.

Terrifying moments caught on camera

The moment of the incident was captured on security cameras, and the footage revealed the scale of the accident. In the footage, the moments when the speeding truck first violently struck vehicles in its own direction, then failed to slow down, crossed the median, and dragged the oncoming vehicles along with it were recorded second by second.

A multi-faceted investigation into the incident is ongoing.
