Foreign Minister Fidan makes statements from the Turkish House: We invited Trump to Turkey

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made important statements at the Turkish House regarding the current agenda and the visit of AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan to America.

In his statement, Fidan said, "Palestine was the most important agenda item of the UN. Our President's bilateral relations went very well. We told US President Trump that a ceasefire in Gaza must be achieved as soon as possible and that it is essential to deliver humanitarian aid to the region. Our priority is to stop the civilian massacre in Gaza. As Turkey, we will protect our interests.

"WE STRONGLY DEFENDED THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE"

In the bilateral meetings held by both our President and myself, we constantly brought up the Palestinian issue. We requested that more support be provided for Palestine. It was an extremely important development that they announced their recognition of the State of Palestine during and just before the General Assembly. We will continue to defend the just cause of the Palestinians on every platform at all times.

ERDOĞAN - TRUMP MEETING

As you have followed, following our President's program in New York, a bilateral visit to Washington made the week we are in even more important. The visits were generally friendly, positive, and constructive.

ERDOĞAN INVITED TRUMP TO TURKEY

Our President invited Mr. Trump to our country both for a bilateral visit and within the scope of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara next year. During the meeting, an agreement was reached on resolving issues that pose obstacles to further strengthening our relations, such as CAATSA sanctions.

An agreement was reached for Turkish Airlines to purchase 75 wide-body and 150 narrow-body aircraft. Prior to the visit, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources had also reached an agreement with the US for long-term energy supply.

In this context, steps that could be taken in the field of the defense industry were evaluated. We will work on concrete projects to advance economic and commercial relations in a balanced manner and to reach a trade volume of 100 billion dollars.

Our President brought up the issue of Palestine. He strongly underlined the issues that are important to us. At the forefront of these is the issue of ensuring a ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible. Attention was also drawn to the risks created by Israel's expansionist policies in the region.

Both countries agree that the territorial integrity and political unity of Syria must be preserved.

"OUR GOAL IS TO STOP THIS HISTORICAL OPPRESSION"

There are issues related to Gaza governing itself after a possible ceasefire agreement. These are, of course, issues that we hope to implement in a good scenario. Turkey, under the leadership of our President, is contributing to this issue in an incredible way. Our goal is to stop this historical oppression and to ensure that the conscience of our citizens does not suffer any more."

"THERE IS NO CONCRETE THING CALLED THE BLAIR PLAN"

We do not have anything concrete in front of us called the 'Blair Plan'. As the relevant countries, we have not been addressed with such a plan. There is only a framework plan regarding a ceasefire and healing the wounds in Gaza that we are dealing with, that we are contributing to, and that the US can also accept. Negotiation processes regarding this are continuing. It was also reflected in the press. Tony Blair could perhaps be given a role in the organization of international aid at some point, that is a separate matter, but the issue that we, as the contact group countries, focus on with sensitivity is that Gaza should be governed by the Gazans themselves after a possible ceasefire agreement," he said.
