It has been reported that vessel traffic in the Dardanelles Strait has been suspended in one direction due to a fire affecting agricultural land and a forested area in the Eceabat district of Çanakkale.

The fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason in cultivated land at the Akbaş location near Kumköy, in the district on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The flames spread to the surrounding forested area in a short time.

Teams were dispatched to the site of the fire, which is visible from many surrounding settlements, by the Çanakkale Regional Directorate of Forestry.

Teams are continuing their aerial and ground intervention to bring the fire under control in the region, where wind is also a factor.

In a statement made by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, it was announced that vessel traffic in the Dardanelles Strait has been temporarily suspended in the north-south direction due to the fire in question.
