Relatives of Osman Nuri Civelek, who served as the mayor of the Azdavay district in Kastamonu for four terms between 2004 and 2024 representing the AK Party, reported him missing after they were unable to reach him.
Teams from the Kastamonu Provincial Gendarmerie Command's Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) launched a search operation during the night.
Civelek's vehicle was found near a pond in the Suğla Plateau of the Azdavay district. Following this discovery, teams began searching the pond. After failing to find any trace of Civelek throughout the night, the teams continued their search efforts in the morning hours. Civelek's body was recovered as a result of operations conducted both from the air via drone and on the pond using boats.
Teams also conducted an examination of Civelek's vehicle, which was found abandoned. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
