Former CHP deputy mayor passes away

Fahrettin Kayhan, former deputy mayor and municipal council member of Kadıköy, has passed away following a heart attack.

Fahrettin Kayhan, the former Deputy Mayor and Municipal Council Member of Kadıköy, has passed away.

The news of Kayhan's death was announced to the public by Kadıköy Mayor Mesut Kösedağı through a post on social media. In his message, Kösedağı stated, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former Deputy Mayor and Council Member Fahrettin Kayhan. I wish God's mercy upon Fahrettin Kayhan, who contributed greatly to Kadıköy and our party; my condolences to us all.”

 

It was learned that Fahrettin Kayhan passed away after suffering a heart attack.

WHO IS FAHRETTİN KAYHAN?

Born in Yozgat in 1964, Fahrettin Kayhan was a graduate of the Ankara University Faculty of Law and worked as a freelance lawyer for a long time. After entering political life, Kayhan took an active role in local government, serving as a Kadıköy Municipal Council Member and Deputy Mayor between 2019 and 2024. During this period, he also held significant positions such as Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council Member and CHP Group Deputy Chairman.

Known not only for his administrative duties but also for his scientific work, Fahrettin Kayhan conducted academic research on Alevi-Bektashi culture and completed a master's degree in this field.

Outside of politics, Kayhan was also known for his family ties; he was the brother of Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Sadık Semih Kayhan.
