Lütfü Savaş, the former Mayor of Hatay whose candidacy was a subject of debate during the March 31 Local Administration General Elections, has been expelled from his party. The CHP Disciplinary Board finalized the decision to refer Savaş to disciplinary action with a request for his permanent expulsion from the party.

Lütfü Savaş, who entered the March 31, 2024 Local Elections as the Republican People's Party's (CHP) candidate for Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, finished the election in 2nd place according to unofficial results.

The following message was included in the CHP's press group regarding the matter:

"Our High Disciplinary Board evaluated the post made by Lütfü Savaş on social media on November 3, 2024, as an act of 'engaging in attitudes and behaviors incompatible with the duties, responsibilities, and membership held in the party' and 'contributing to political activities and actions contrary to the party's fundamental principles,' and has decided by UNANIMOUS VOTE to punish him with the penalty of PERMANENT EXPULSION."
