Former Interpol Department Head explains flaws in Narin murder case: It started from the wrong place

Although nearly a month has passed since the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was massacred in Diyarbakır, the incident has still not been fully clarified in all its aspects.

Former Interpol Department Head Mustafa Aydın drew attention to the mistakes and shortcomings made during the investigation process in an interview with the newspaper Sözcü. Aydın emphasized that the leaking of confidential interrogation records to the press, in particular, has caused the incident to become even more complicated.

IT STARTED FROM THE WRONG PLACE

Former Interpol Department Head Mustafa Aydın stated that the wrong methods have been used since the beginning of the investigation. Stating that investigators did not focus enough on the motive for the murder, Aydın said:

“The question of why an 8-year-old child was killed is the most critical point in reaching the perpetrator. However, I see that this question was not focused on enough during the investigation process. A proper intelligence study should have been conducted by taking into account important elements such as Narin's environment, social relationships, and gender. Instead, taking random people into interrogation harms the resolution of the case.”

MOTHER'S COLD-BLOODED ATTITUDE DRAWS ATTENTION

Aydın also drew attention to the behavior of Narin's mother and family members. The cold-blooded statements made by the mother have caught the attention of the former Interpol Department Head. Emphasizing that the mother's statement, "May God damn whoever killed Narin," was quite cold-blooded, Aydın said, “Would a mother react like this after losing her 8-year-old daughter? This is a very remarkable situation.”

Also touching upon the allegations of drug addiction circulating about Narin's brother, Aydın said, "These allegations should be seriously investigated within the scope of the investigation. Without accusing anyone, every possibility must be evaluated to clarify the incident."

INTELLIGENCE WEAKNESS IN THE INVESTIGATION PROCESS

Drawing attention to the social and cultural structure of the village of Tavşantepe, where the incident took place, and its surroundings, Aydın stated that intelligence work should have been carried out more intensively in a narrow area to solve the murder. He said, “If more emphasis had been placed on the reason for Narin's murder, the background of the murder would have been solved more quickly.”
