Former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Burhan Özfatura was taken to the hospital after falling ill at his home in the Balçova district of İzmir.
Dokuz Eylül University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Emel Çalıkoğlu reported that Özfatura was brought to the hospital's emergency department due to a sudden cardiac arrest he suffered early yesterday morning.
Çalıkoğlu stated that Özfatura has been placed under close monitoring and treatment in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit.
"Mr. Burhan Özfatura has been placed under close monitoring and treatment in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit. Our patient's life remains in danger."
The statement noted that Özfatura's health status is being closely monitored by Dokuz Eylül University Rector Prof. Dr. Bayram Yılmaz, and that the treatment process is being carried out by specialist physicians and the healthcare team.
