Former minister Abdüllatif Şener's son kills his grandmother: He had taken her hostage

A dispute broke out for reasons yet unknown between Bedirhan Şener, the son of Abdüllatif Şener, and his grandmother, Leyla Çetiner, at their home in the Ayrancı neighborhood of Ankara.

During the incident, which escalated into a fight, Bedirhan Şener took his grandmother, Leyla Çetiner, hostage with a firearm.

Upon this, Abdüllatif Şener went out to the street where the house is located and reported the situation to police teams.

Following the report, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY POLICE TEAMS

Due to the course of events, a special operations police team was also sent to the area.

During this time, Bedirhan Şener shot and killed his grandmother, Leyla Çetiner.

Bedirhan Şener was taken into custody by police teams.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM ŞENER

Speaking to Sözcü, Abdüllatif Şener stated that the allegations that his wife had been killed were baseless and that his wife was alive, saying:

"My son, who has psychological problems, fired without even knowing that the person in front of him was his grandmother. We are very sad. It is a tragic event. The allegations that my son killed his mother are not true."

"4 SHOTS WERE FIRED"

One of the witnesses to the incident, Güvenevler Neighborhood Headman Seviye Ardıç, stated in her explanation to journalists that a neighborhood council member had called her to say that a gunshot had been heard and that there were police teams and ambulances in the neighborhood. Stating that she immediately arrived at the scene, Ardıç said, "What I learned from the police and the neighbors is that it is Abdüllatif Şener's son and that 4 shots were fired with a gun. The wounded person was taken to the hospital and passed away there."

"A WOMAN SHOUTED 'THEY SHOT MY MOTHER'"

Another eyewitness, who did not want to give their name, said they were a neighbor of Abdüllatif Şener and continued their words as follows:

"I heard 4 gunshots. I panicked and opened the window. I saw a woman, she was shouting 'They shot my mother.' There was a gentleman at the door. This gentleman was busy with his phone.

I went to the woman at that moment and gave her water. Of course, at that moment, you cannot ask what happened. The woman was a bit panicked and started crying, I calmed her down.

Later, the police, ambulance, and riot police arrived. They did not let the ambulance inside, fearing he might be armed. We waited for about 20 minutes to enter. I think she was stuck behind the door. At that moment, I focused on the woman and calmed her down. But I am sure I heard 4 loud gunshots. I did not hear any argument beforehand. It never happens around here. I am very shocked."

WHO IS ABDÜLLATİF ŞENER?

Şener graduated from Sivas Imam Hatip High School. In 1977, he graduated from the Department of Economics and Finance at Ankara University's Faculty of Political Sciences.

He continued his academic career, which he started as a research assistant at the Bolu School of Management affiliated with the Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, by completing his doctorate in the field of Public Finance at Gazi University.

Abdüllatif Şener became the deputy dean at the Gazi University Bolu Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. He worked as a faculty member in the Department of Public Finance at Hacettepe University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. He served as a revenue controller at the Ministry of Finance.
