Former MP Ahmet Çelik was stabbed by his brother: 'I didn't even realize my brother was injured...'

In Bahçelievler, a lawsuit has been filed against Kemal Çelik, the brother who was arrested for stabbing former İYİ Party Istanbul MP Ahmet Çelik in his office, seeking a prison sentence ranging from 5 years, 9 months, and 22 days to 13 years and 6 months.

The indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that the complainant, Ahmet Çelik, had been in business with his brother, Kemal Çelik, for 35 years.

The indictment notes that on the day of the incident, March 12, the defendant went to the office in Bahçelievler, entered his brother's room, threw documents, and punched the desk, while also insulting the complainant. It further states that Ahmet Çelik attempted to lead his brother out of his room.

The indictment describes how the defendant then pulled a knife from his pocket and swung it at the complainant, injuring him as the complainant tried to grab the blade. It notes that the complainant, who was stabbed in the chest by the defendant, began to bleed, after which the defendant went to his own room.

''HE CHANGED HIS CLOTHES AND WENT TO THE HOSPITAL''

The indictment mentions that the complainant, Ahmet Çelik, changed his clothes and drove himself to the hospital. It also notes that one day before the incident, the defendant had sent messages containing insults and threats to his brother via a messaging application.

In his statement included in the indictment, the defendant, Kemal Çelik, explained that there was no hostility between him and his brother, Ahmet Çelik, but that they had entered a concordat process about a year ago due to the financial difficulties of the company they operated together, which had led to verbal arguments between them recently.

''I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE MY BROTHER WAS INJURED''

Stating that the argument with his brother on the day of the incident turned into a scuffle, the defendant Kemal Çelik said, "During this time, my brother hit me in various places and assaulted me. To protect myself, I picked up an object I found at the scene. However, I did not use the object. As my brother's attack continued, he was injured in his left hand, requiring 3-4 stitches. When the incident was over, I didn't even realize my brother was injured. I have been taking heavy psychiatric medication due to financial problems."

''THE INJURY IS LIFE-THREATENING''

The forensic report included in the indictment noted that the stab wound in the complainant's chest cavity was of a nature that could not be treated with simple medical intervention and posed a danger to his life.

The indictment requests that the defendant Kemal Çelik, who was arrested on March 13, be sentenced to 5 to 9 years in prison for "intentional injury against a sibling with a weapon in a way that endangers life," 3 months and 22 days to 3 years and 6 months for "chain-offense insult," and 6 months to 1 year for "unauthorized purchase, carrying, or possession of knives or other tools."

The indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office has been accepted by the Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance.
