Fraudster swindles woman out of 1 million 650 thousand TL by claiming to be an 'Interpol officer'

A suspect who introduced himself as an Interpol officer over the phone and defrauded a woman of 1 million 650 thousand lira in the Oğuzlar district of Çorum has been arrested.

According to the information received, a woman who suspected she was being defrauded over the phone applied to the Oğuzlar District Police Department to file a complaint.

In her statement, the woman explained that the person who introduced himself as an Interpol officer on the phone told her that "a comprehensive operation against the terrorist organization FETÖ would be carried out in the district, that she was among those to be detained, and that she could avoid being detained if she made a large payment to them." She stated that she sent 1 million 650 thousand lira to 4 separate bank accounts within 3 days, and that she became suspicious when the suspect claimed they had arrived in the district for the operation and asked her to leave her gold at a designated location.

Upon the report, police teams took action and began tracking individuals from outside the district using City Security Management System (KGYS) cameras. During their investigation, the teams detained H.C. (19) on Fatih Street after becoming suspicious of his behavior. H.C., who was determined to have come to the Oğuzlar district in a car he rented from Ankara, was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. The suspect was arrested by the duty magistrate.
