Participating in a live broadcast on A Haber, Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy drew attention to the fact that the earthquakes occurring after the 6.1 magnitude tremors were trending southward, and issued a "foreshock" warning.
Following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake on October 27, seismic activity in the region has accelerated. Most recently, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in the region this evening.

Pointing out that the earthquakes occurring after the 6.1 magnitude tremor on October 27 were trending southward, Üşümezsoy stated, "The aftershocks of the earthquake in Balıkesir should have been centered in Sındırgı.
This makes me think. I am wondering, 'Are these also aftershocks, or are they the foreshocks of a new earthquake?'
After the first earthquake, the aftershocks were always in the same area.
But now, there is a clustering occurring toward the south of the center," he said.
