From the Ministry of Justice: Statement regarding the verdict on 5 individuals who threatened Minguzzi's family

The Ministry of Justice has issued a statement regarding the verdicts in the trial of 5 minors who were prosecuted for making threatening posts on social media against the family of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who lost his life following a knife attack in Kadıköy.

The Ministry of Justice has issued a statement regarding the verdicts delivered today at the Bakırköy 4th Juvenile Court concerning 5 children dragged into crime who sent threatening messages to the family of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who was stabbed to death in Kadıköy on January 24, 2025, and made posts praising the knife attackers. 

In the statement made by the Ministry of Justice, it was noted: "Within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the Minguzzi murder, 4 children dragged into crime are under arrest for the crime of 'Qualified Intentional Killing of a Child in Participation.' The detention of these individuals continues.

Regarding the incident of damage to Minguzzi's grave, 1 person is under arrest within the scope of the investigation opened by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. A separate investigation is being conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of 'Threat' upon the complaint that Ahmet Minguzzi's family was threatened via social media.

The verdict issued today relates to the case opened against those detained within the scope of this investigation. Accordingly, in the hearing of the Bakırköy 4th Juvenile Court dated 23.05.2025, 5 children dragged into crime were sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for the crime of 'Praising Crime and Criminals.'

Of these individuals, 1 child dragged into crime was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison for the crime of 'Chain Armed Threat,' and it was decided that their detention shall continue. For the other 4 children dragged into crime, an acquittal was granted, and it was ruled that judicial control measures be applied.

On the other hand, an indictment has been prepared against 2 detained adult suspects for the crimes of 'Threat with more than one person, praising crime and criminals, and insult.' These individuals remain in custody," the statement said.

Emphasizing that the decisions taken today within the scope of the investigation into the threats against the family only concern the children dragged into crime, the statement said, "In conclusion, the decision given at today's hearing within the scope of the investigation into the threats against the family only concerns the children dragged into crime. In this regard, the detention of 2 adult suspects also continues. In other words, 3 people, including 1 child dragged into crime, are currently under arrest in this matter. Another investigation concerns the beating of a person living in the same neighborhood as Ahmet Minguzzi by individuals stated to be friends of the murder suspects due to a post made on social media. Within the scope of this investigation conducted by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 5 children dragged into crime are under arrest. In summary, a total of 13 people are under arrest for all these charges: 4 people for the murder, 1 person for damaging the grave, 3 people for threatening the family, and 5 people for the beating of Minguzzi's friend," it was stated.
