17-year-old lost his life in the accident she caused: Zehra Kınık offers money to the grieving family

As the trial of Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık, continues for causing the accident on July 9, 2024, that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki, a new development has come to the public's attention.

According to a report by İsmail Arı from Birgün, the Barlasçeki family stated that the defendant, Kınık Demir, had offered them money.

Kübra Doğan, the aunt of Batın Barlasçeki, stated in her announcement that the other party attempted to reach a settlement during the trial process by offering non-pecuniary damages. Doğan said the following:

“I am the aunt of Batın, who lost his life in the accident caused by Fatma Zehra Kınık. We have been fighting for justice for 9 months. Despite being found 100 percent at fault multiple times, Kınık has not received any punishment. Moreover, emboldened by this, she was involved in a second accident. Now, her lawyer has called our lawyer to propose non-pecuniary damages and reach a settlement. We do not want a bargain; we want justice. My sister lost her child, her life is shattered. This pain cannot be measured in money.”

FACING UP TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON

A lawsuit has been filed against Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, seeking up to 15 years in prison for the charge of "causing death and injury by negligence." The Forensic Medicine Institute's Traffic Specialization Department prepared a report for the case, which is being heard at the İstanbul Anadolu 8th High Criminal Court, where Kınık Demir is being tried without arrest. The report emphasized that the defendant was primarily at fault.

However, the court rejected the arrest requests made by the Barlasçeki family and their lawyers.

ANOTHER ACCIDENT WITH THE SAME VEHICLE

It has also emerged that the only accident Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir was involved in was not limited to the incident where Batın Barlasçeki lost his life. On February 3, 2025, in Beykoz, Istanbul, the vehicle with license plate 34 FKJ 390, which also belongs to the Kınık family, was involved in another accident resulting in property damage. According to eyewitness accounts, Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir was driving the vehicle again. The person who arrived at the scene was once again Kerem Kınık.

An interesting detail regarding the accident is that the accident on July 9, 2024, in which Batın Barlasçeki lost his life, was also committed with the same vehicle.

Batın Barlasçeki's aunt, Kübra Doğan, concluded her statement with this appeal:

''We thank everyone who has stood by us until now. We do not want to be left alone in this case. Fatma Zehra Kınık must also be held accountable before justice like every other criminal. Every instance of justice not served opens the door to new crimes. Please be our voice.”
