The execution regulation that paves the way for the release of approximately 20,000 inmates has been published in the Official Gazette and has entered into force. The wait that began in the evening hours in front of the Antalya S-Type Prison continued throughout the night. A citizen named Erhan Gümüş, who was waiting for his mother, stated, "We have been coming and going for 4 years, I hope today will be the last," while a citizen named Murat Can said, "We will have a double celebration, God willing," expressing that they were waiting for the moment he would reunite with his wife.

Some families celebrated the release of their relatives by performing traditional dances.

THE WAIT CONTINUED UNTIL THE NIGHT HOURS

The wait that began in the evening hours in front of the Antalya S-Type Closed Penal Execution Institution continued until late at night. Among those gathered in front of the prison were those who had been waiting for their sons, spouses, or mothers for years. Some followed the names that would come out from inside by sitting on vehicles, others by sitting on the sidewalk.

Every vehicle approaching the prison gate was watched with curiosity; the crowd kept time with applause from time to time, and there were those who performed traditional dances.

A citizen named Erhan Gümüş, who was waiting for his mother at the prison, stated that his mother had been in prison for 4 years and said, "We have been coming and going for 4 years, I hope today will be the last. My mother is inside. She had been inside for about 4 years. She had 3 years left, we were coming and going for open visits. I hope we don't come again, and our path doesn't fall here. We are happy, her grandchildren have also come. There are 4 grandchildren waiting for their grandmother. We are waiting with great anticipation. This law was very good. If I sacrifice an animal, I will sacrifice it for my mother," he said.

During the wait, Murat Can, who had a video call with his wife in prison, stated that they were counting the hours for the release. Can said, "We came to pick up my wife, God willing, we will take her out and take her away from here. There is very little time left, hours left, we are waiting. May God grant it to everyone. She had been lying inside for 4 and a half years. She had 2 and a half years left. We will have a double celebration, God willing," he said.

RELEASES BEGAN THIS MORNING

With the law, convicts who received sentences for repeat offenses will also be able to benefit from conditional release. The scope of the home execution practice has been expanded for sick and disabled inmates who are not in a condition to stay in prison. The execution judge will be able to decide on the home execution of the sentences of inmates who are assessed as not posing a concrete and serious danger to public safety.

Women who have passed six months since their birth and have received a prison sentence of five years or less will also be able to benefit from home execution. For women, children, and individuals who have completed the age of 65, the home execution period may increase from one year to three years. This period may be applied up to four years for those who have completed the age of 70, five years for those over 75, and six years for individuals over 80.

RELEASES ALSO TOOK PLACE FROM MALTEPE PRISON

Inmates at Maltepe Prison were also released on leave due to the holiday. The relatives of the inmates gathered in front of the prison gate during the night hours. They waited for their relatives to come out.

Erhan Ek, who was waiting for his uncle to come out of prison, said, "At this hour of the night, we are waiting for our great uncle. We are very happy, we are very excited. With God's permission, he will come out, I hope. May God not let any harm come to our state," he said.
