An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in the Mediterranean at 02:17, with its epicenter in the Mediterranean (Muğla).
Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık announced that 69 citizens in the city were affected by the 5.8 magnitude earthquake, and a 14-year-old child lost their life in the hospital.
Earth scientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement regarding the earthquake on his social media account.
In his post on the social media platform X (Twitter), Görür stated, "5.7 earthquake off the coast of Bozburun, Muğla. It is of an oblique reverse fault nature. It is likely on the Pliny-Strabo Fault Zone and connected to the Hellenic-Cyprus Subduction Zone. Get well soon."
Continuing his remarks, Görür said:
"ANNOUNCEMENT: Our reflection on today's Muğla earthquake should be as follows. Instead of debating how the earthquake happened, where it happened, whether it was an aftershock or a foreshock, it is more correct to say let's make Muğla earthquake-resistant. However, today's urban transformation is not earthquake resistance. With love."
