Following the Military Academy graduation, the lieutenants who recited the officer's oath crossed their swords and said, "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal." In the disciplinary investigation opened regarding the incident, 5 lieutenants and 3 disciplinary commanders were dismissed.

Following this incident, which is on the agenda, a striking claim emerged regarding National Defense University Rector Erhan Afyoncu. Journalist Tolga Şardan explained that claim in his article on T24, saying it "should not be dismissed.".

RECTOR SAID "I RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE SECURITY DIRECTORATE"

Tolga Şardan reported that at a meeting at the Military Academy on September 5, Erhan Afyoncu asked the commanders, "Are you aware that a group went to that side of the mosque, sang anthems, and gathered there?"

It was revealed that during the civilian and military evaluation meetings held after the lieutenants' incident on August 30, Rector Afyoncu first asked the colonels and lieutenant colonels attending the meeting, 'Were you aware of the activity in question by the lieutenants?' and then, stating that the lieutenants had gathered and sang anthems, said, "I received such information from the Security Directorate!"

WERE THE LIEUTENANTS UNDER POLICE SURVEILLANCE?

After this sentence, which remained between the lines of the investigation files, Tolga Şardan brought a striking claim about Erhan Afyoncu to the agenda.

Stating, "When looking at this anecdote reflected in official documents, two possibilities emerge," Şardan wrote the following:

"First; the police are tracking, monitoring, and perhaps even wiretapping the Military Academy students. And they are relaying their findings to Rector Afyoncu!

The second possibility is; in fact, there is no such activity as 'the police tracking and monitoring the Military Academy.' However, Rector Afyoncu acted this way to test the knowledge of the military administrators he works with under the umbrella of the National Defense University and to reflect his authority on the table."

When I examined in detail the investigation and research files prepared by both the National Defense University (MSÜ) and the Land Forces Command (KKK) following the sword-oath incident at the Military Academy (KHO), I encountered another situation that is not directly related to what happened but should not be dismissed.

To tell you the truth, the information I will share may remain in the background of the lieutenants' incident. However, let me state in advance; it is mentioned between the lines of the personnel statements taken during the administrative investigations launched within the framework of the lieutenants' process.

Namely; during the chaotic process created by the lieutenants' sword-oath incident on August 30, the civilian and military administration of the Military Academy began holding evaluation meetings.

One of these meetings took place at the Military Academy on September 5. The meeting was held in the office of Brigadier General Levent Selahattin Güldağı, who was newly appointed as the school commander, under the chairmanship of MSÜ Rector Erhan Afyoncu, who came to the school.

In addition to Dean Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ethem Atnur and Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arif Sarı, Deputy Regiment Commander Infantry Colonel Önder Hançer, 2nd Malazgirt Battalion Commander Infantry Commando Lieutenant Colonel Halit Türkoğlu, 4th Dumlupınar Battalion Commander Tank Staff Lieutenant Colonel Ali Aşıcı, and Artillery Lieutenant Colonel Yasin Yaşar attended the meeting.

Rector Afyoncu asked the colonels and lieutenant colonels attending the meeting, referring to the sword-oath incident, 'Were you aware of the activity in question by the lieutenants?' Lieutenant Colonel Türkoğlu, Commander of the 2nd Malazgirt Battalion, where the lieutenants who performed the sword-oath incident were located, explained that previously, Term Top Student Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu had requested to recite the oath, but he had refused it because it was not in the directive.

In the discussion between Rector Afyoncu and the military administrators regarding whether the movements and activities of the students at the Military Academy were being closely monitored, Afyoncu asked an interesting question.

This question by Afyoncu is the source of the subject of the Magnifying Glass (Büyüteç).

In the first article about the lieutenants, it was revealed from the statement of a personnel named R.K., who works as a gardener at the MSÜ and whose knowledge was sought regarding the events, that a new mosque was built at the Military Academy and it became operational on the day of the graduation ceremony.

Rector Afyoncu, addressing the commanders sitting around the meeting table, asked, "Are you aware that a group went to that side of the mosque, sang anthems, and gathered there?" to learn whether the students' movements on the Military Academy campus were being closely monitored.

Upon the question, while the commanders around the table looked at each other's faces, Afyoncu uttered the truly critical sentence:

"I RECEIVED SUCH INFORMATION FROM THE SECURITY DIRECTORATE!"

No one in Güldağı's office could answer this question. However, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Aşıcı, who was the Military Academy Duty Officer on August 29, 2024, explained that he saw Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu at the Celal Dora Ceremony Area, and therefore she could not have been on the mosque side.

Upon this answer, when Rector Afyoncu asked "whether some of the cadets had separated from the group at the Celal Dora Ceremony Area and were active near the infirmary and the mosque," Lieutenant Colonel Türkoğlu and Lieutenant Colonel Aşıcı stated that they were not aware of it.

Following these answers from the commanders, Rector Afyoncu called the school's intelligence officer. Afyoncu gave the instruction to the intelligence officer who came to Güldağı's office to "examine the cameras overlooking the new mosque."

Upon the instruction, Deputy Dean Sarı, who was at the meeting, also went to watch the cameras with the intelligence officer. In the examination made from the camera recordings, it was understood that approximately 300 students had gathered in the area in question.

These findings were included between the lines during the information provided to the investigation committee by different administrators.
