The Büyükçekmece Municipal Council has taken a significant decision to combat environmental pollution. As of January 1, 2025, an administrative fine of 2,950 TL will be imposed on those who pollute the environment by throwing trash, cigarette butts, or nut shells on the ground in parks, squares, and streets. Mayor Hasan Akgün stated that the decision would be 'implemented without hesitation' and announced that awareness campaigns would also be organized to increase environmental consciousness.

Büyükçekmece Municipality has taken a new step regarding environmental cleanliness and the fight against pollution. In line with the decision taken at the Municipal Council's December meeting, administrative fines will be imposed on those who pollute the environment starting from January 1, 2025. This fine is specifically aimed at increasing environmental awareness in public spaces.
THE COST OF LITTERING HAS BEEN SET
According to the regulation accepted unanimously by the Municipal Council, those who pollute the environment within the borders of the Büyükçekmece district in parks, squares, boulevards, and streets will pay a fine of 2,950 TL. This decision will apply to waste such as cigarette butts, trash, and nut shells.
WILL BE IMPLEMENTED WITHOUT HESITATION
Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün emphasized the importance of this decision regarding environmental cleanliness and stated that the implementation would be followed with seriousness. Akgün used the following expressions:
“The people of Büyükçekmece have gained a positive habit regarding environmental cleanliness, especially on the Kordonboyu. However, the pollution that intensifies, especially on weekends, made intervention necessary. We will implement this decision without hesitation with our plainclothes municipal police and teams.”
POLLUTION INCREASES ON WEEKENDS
Mayor Akgün said that pollution increases especially from the beginning of May to the end of October and continues on weekends, from Friday evening to Monday morning. He stated that municipal police teams would work intensively during this period and that penalty applications would be increased.
AIMING TO INCREASE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
This decision is expected to reduce pollution by increasing environmental cleanliness. Municipal officials also announced that they would organize information campaigns to ensure that citizens act more consciously on this issue.
