Alarming sight in Istanbul! Fishermen unable to set sail

Fatih Akkor, a fisherman working in Menekşe Creek, stated that the sea water level has receded more this year than ever before. The beach where the sea water has receded was captured from the air.

At Menekşe Beach in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district, the sea water receded, creating small islets along the coastline.

Fishermen at Menekşe Creek were unable to set sail with their boats due to the shallowing of the sea.

Aerial footage showed that islets had formed along the coastline and the sea water had receded by several meters.

Pointing out that the sea water has receded much more this year compared to previous years, the fishermen expressed that they could not go out to fish because the water had become too shallow.

'WE CANNOT GO FISHING'

Fatih Akkor, a fisherman working in Menekşe Creek, stated that the sea water level has receded more this year than ever before.

Akkor said, "The sea water has never receded this much in any other year. This year, the recession reached about 60-70 centimeters. This situation is also related to the rainfall. The lack of water flow from Küçükçekmece Lake and the dams has also affected this recession.

Perhaps the water level will improve in a few days, but this year's recession, which is greater than ever, should be investigated. We feel it because we work in fishing. Because of the receding waters, I could not go fishing last night.

My boat is sitting there; I waited and waited but could not set sail. If I had gone out, I wouldn't have been able to get back in, so I had to go home. Now I am coming from my home at this hour. It is even affecting our livelihood," he said.
