Due to the ongoing heavy snowfall in Istanbul, no announcement has been made yet regarding whether schools will be closed on Thursday, February 13.

While the IMM AKOM announced that cold weather and snowfall will continue to be effective, a holiday announcement is expected from the Governor's Office.

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE ANNOUNCED THE CLOSURE

Due to the heavy snowfall that affected Istanbul the previous day, education was suspended for one day on Tuesday in the districts of Küçükçekmece, Beykoz, Arnavutköy, Esenyurt, Avcılar, Sultangazi, Beylikdüzü, Büyükçekmece, and Başakşehir.

Subsequently, the Istanbul Governor's Office announced that schools were closed across the city on Wednesday, February 12.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gül said in his statement yesterday, "The snowfall, which continues to affect Istanbul, is negatively impacting life due to the effect of cold weather. According to meteorological data, snowfall and cold weather are expected to continue to be effective across the city.

For this reason, education has been suspended for one day in all educational institutions across Istanbul on Wednesday, 12.02.2025. On the other hand, disabled employees, those with chronic illnesses, and pregnant personnel working in public institutions and organizations will also be considered on administrative leave on Wednesday, 12.02.2025."

While there has been no announcement yet regarding whether schools will be closed on Thursday, February 13, a critical warning has come from AKOM.

In the statement made by the IMM, it was stated that according to the weather forecast report published by AKOM, freezing temperatures and snowfall will continue to be effective in the city.

In the statement, which reported that light sleet and snowfall were observed in the northern regions in the morning hours, it was reported that the snowfall is expected to increase its intensity on the Anatolian Side starting from the afternoon hours.

In the statement, which indicated that the cold wave that has been effective in Istanbul since the beginning of February will continue until the weekend, it was reported that weather conditions are expected to approach seasonal norms as temperatures begin to rise, especially starting from Thursday.

In the statement, drivers were asked to be careful and take precautions against icing due to weather conditions.
