Arrested on drug charges: Ümit Karan's 21-year-old ex-girlfriend speaks out! 'He gave me cocaine'

In a large-scale drug operation targeting famous figures, 18 suspects, including former Galatasaray footballer Ümit Karan, were detained. Among the suspects are DJ Merve Sanay and influencer Deniz Berk Cengiz.

14 OF THE DETAINED SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Of the 23 suspects referred to the Istanbul Courthouse, 14, including former footballer Ümit Karan, were brought before the duty magistrate judge with a request for arrest.

Along with Karan, Timuçin Ünal, Gökhan Gümüş, and Nuray İstek, who were determined to have supplied drugs, were also among the arrested suspects.

"ÜMİT KARAN GAVE ME COCAINE"

A 21-year-old woman identified as Ş.N. stated in her testimony to the prosecutor that she met Ümit Karan about 7 months ago and that they used drugs 3 times. Ş.N. alleged that Karan gave her cocaine and that she did not pay any money for it.

In her statement, she said, "Ümit Karan brought me drugs and offered them to me; I regret it."

Denying the drug charges, Ümit Karan defended himself in his statement to the prosecutor by saying, "In the past, I used a substance abroad without knowing what it was." Karan stated, "I never gave drugs to any woman." Furthermore, he claimed he only had an emotional relationship with Ş.N. and denied the allegations of providing cocaine.

The testimonies of Timuçin Ünal, Gökhan Gümüş, and Nuray İstek, who were determined to have supplied drugs, were also at the center of the investigation. Karan stated that he had known Timuçin Ünal for 20 years but did not sell drugs.

He argued that he had known Gökhan Gümüş for 4 years and that there was no drug supply between them.

According to security sources, Karan headed toward Sabiha Gökçen Airport after learning that the people who supplied him with drugs had been exposed.

Realizing he was being followed, Karan changed vehicles twice while on his way to the airport. However, despite all his efforts, he was caught and detained.

HAIR AND BLOOD SAMPLES TAKEN

Following the operation, hair and blood samples were taken from the suspects for forensic analysis. 14 people, including Ümit Karan, were arrested and sent to prison.
