A critical threshold has been crossed in the second 'opening' process—which MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli architected and the government has named 'Terror-Free Turkey'—as three members from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party in the parliamentary commission visited İmralı to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK.
Following the İmralı meetings, public opinion research companies have accelerated their polling efforts. Most recently, Europoll Research investigated the current voting preferences of voters who cast their ballots for the YSP (now known as the DEM Party) in the 2023 elections.
In the survey, participants were asked, "Which party would those who voted for the HDP in 2023 vote for today?" The vast majority of participants pointed to the CHP.
While 0.9 percent of voters who voted for the DEM Party in 2023 said they would vote for the CHP, the DEM Party had reached a 9.1 percent vote share in 2023.
The survey results are as follows:
80.9 percent - DEM
9.8 percent - CHP
6.4 percent - AKP
2.0 percent - OTHER
1.0 percent - YRP
0.0 percent - MHP
0.0 percent - İYİ
0.0 percent - ZAFER
