Beyoğlu's iconic venue Markiz reopens after years
Markiz Pastanesi, one of the most historic and famous venues in Beyoğlu, is reopening. Having hosted many famous figures from writers to academics since 1940, Markiz will be brought back to life with its original layout and menu.

Good news has arrived from Markiz Patisserie, known as one of the most historic and famous venues on İstiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu.
According to a report by Senem Bal Ay from Oksijen, Markiz Patisserie, which was opened by Avedis Ohanyan Çakır in 1940 at the entrance of the Passage Oriental (Şark Pasajı) on the site of the former Lebon Patisserie, had become a frequent destination for writers and academics.
Markiz is a high-ceilinged venue located at the entrance of the Passage Oriental, facing İstiklal Avenue.
In the space entered through a small foyer, the large panels on the walls catch your eye the moment you walk in.
"WE HAVE FINALIZED THE ACQUISITION"
When the IBB Heritage team was performing maintenance on the facade of Markiz in 2021, questions like "Will it open again, will it return?" came to mind.
Ömer Esen, a board member of one of the two companies that purchased Markiz, said, "Our meeting with Markiz actually took place years ago. As the Esen and Erkul families, our warm relationship with the last owners of Markiz, the managers of the UK-based Eastern European Real Estate Fund, led to commercial and social interactions over the years. We were in tough negotiations for the past 5 years for Markiz, which we used to visit, and we finally finalized the acquisition."
Stating that when Markiz fully opens in the future, it will bring the detailed patisserie culture back to the present day, just as it was from the time of Lebon, Ömer Esen says the following to those waiting for Markiz with excitement:

"Thanks to our research and the inferences we obtained from the archives we created with the help of valuable individuals, we will open the patisserie by remaining faithful to its original menu, preserving its original layout and design, as well as the service culture and quality it established.
Everything from the materials used here to the presentation sets, from the showcase designs to the uniforms of our employees, will be very meticulous. Contrary to the conventional order of today, we aim to restore the spirit of 'Here, every table is an island unto itself,' as Haldun Taner put it.
In addition, by activating the Markiz website, we will enable people who have spent time at Markiz to share their memories and ensure that these turn into a memory book in the future."
