CHP presidential candidate and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been held in Silivri Prison since March 23.
While messages regarding trial without arrest have recently come from the MHP, a partner in the People's Alliance, a similar statement was made by Bülent Arınç, one of the founding figures of the AKP.
Arınç, who occasionally makes headlines with his criticisms of the AKP, made remarkable statements regarding the operations targeting CHP-run municipalities.
Speaking on Ekol TV, Arınç stated that Ekrem İmamoğlu should be tried without arrest.
Stating that he would not visit İmamoğlu due to potential misunderstandings, Arınç said, "It would be misunderstood if I went to visit Ekrem İmamoğlu amidst all this noise."
Arınç emphasized that he trusts court decisions and used the expression, "A correct decision will be made in the face of a good trial."
Emphasizing that it is not right for İmamoğlu to be tried while in custody based on the claim that he might flee, Arınç said the following:
“Let them be tried without arrest, my brother. They say they might flee… Let them flee if necessary. They cannot flee; even their shoe sizes are known. Anyone who flees loses their entire argument anyway.”
