A chain of negligence in the Böcek family scandal... They were locked in the room

A chain of negligence at the hotel where the Böcek family, who had arrived in Istanbul from Germany, were staying is coming to light.

UNAUTHORIZED FUMIGATION DETECTED

Examinations conducted as part of the investigation determined that room 202 of the hotel where the family stayed was fumigated on November 11 by a company named DSS. In a letter sent by the Provincial Health Directorate to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the firm named DSS was operating without the necessary permits.

It was determined that D.C., who carried out the fumigation process, had no certificate registration, that the operation was performed under the responsibility of S.K., and that the owner of the company was Z.K.

HOTEL OWNER HAD WORK DONE BY AN UNAUTHORIZED FIRM

It was determined that H.O., the owner of the hotel named Harbour Suites Old City, had this unauthorized firm perform the fumigation. The prosecutor's office assessed that D.C., S.K., and Z.K., who were responsible for the fumigation process, acted in violation of their duty of care and diligence.

It was also reflected in the file that there were employees named R.B. and M.M.U.D.C. who worked part-time at the hotel when needed.

According to the statements entered into the investigation file, it was reported that the receptionist M.M.U.D.C. locked the hotel door to go out to eat and, upon returning, found the poisoned family members in a semi-conscious state.

It was determined that in his initial statement, the same employee claimed he was disturbed by the smell due to fumigation in room 101; however, he did not mention this smell in his statement taken in the capacity of a suspect.

In the footage entered into the file, it was understood that Servet Böcek could not get out due to the locked door and tried to break it down. It was determined that citizens in the vicinity helped to open the door, and it was at this exact moment that the receptionist M.M.U.D.C. arrived and opened the door.

The prosecutor's office assessed that the staff did not fulfill their supervisory duties and acted in violation of their duty of care and diligence.

It was determined that M.M.U.D.C.'s statement that he "went out due to the disturbing smell" did not align with the flow of events.

It was noted that R.B.'s similar claims about going out due to the smell did not correspond with reality, and therefore he did not fulfill the necessary supervisory duties as a receptionist.

IT WAS REVEALED THAT 3 MORE PEOPLE WERE POISONED AT THE SAME HOTEL

In the investigation, it was determined that three people named M.T., F.R., and A.H. also applied to the hospital on November 15 with suspected poisoning and were discharged after their treatment.

It was determined that the Böcek family, who went to Bezmialem Hospital on the morning of November 12 in a semi-conscious state with complaints of nausea, were given serum, and the mother and father were prescribed stomach protectors and painkillers.

It was stated that 6-year-old Kadir Muhammet and 3-year-old Masal were not examined at Bezmialem, were referred to Çapa Hospital, and were discharged without any treatment after being given probiotics.

THEY CONTINUED TO BREATHE THE TOXIC AIR

It was reported that the family, who could not eat anything in the evening hours, became ill again around 01:00 on November 13, wanted to go to the hospital by ambulance, but were sent back to the hotel.

It was stated that because the hotel was locked, the family members continued to breathe the toxic air in the room for a long time, a critical loss of time occurred, and they were taken to the hospital by ambulance after the incident.

At the end of the process, first the two children, then the mother Çiğdem Böcek, and finally the father Servet Böcek lost their lives.
