Following this statement by Kurdoğlu, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office denied the information that the indictment against Özdağ had been prepared.
ÖZDAĞ'S LAWYER MADE A STATEMENT
While the mystery surrounding the indictment continues, a statement came from Özdağ's lawyer, Murat Yıldız. Speaking to Gönül Kasap from TELE1, Yıldız explained the indictment and the case process.
Yıldız stated that the case files regarding the charges against Özdağ were separated into two, with one indictment prepared, and that they expect the other indictment to be prepared on Monday. Yıldız also announced the date for the hearing on the charge of insulting the President.
Yıldız's statements are as follows:
"We were expecting all indictments regarding the charges against Mr. Ümit Özdağ to be prepared before the holiday. The charges started with insulting the President and were then expanded. Subsequently, charges of inciting the public to hatred and anger were added to the investigation. In the expanded investigation, the file was split into two.
ÜMİT ÖZDAĞ WILL APPEAR IN COURT ON APRIL 29
Currently, Mr. Özdağ will be tried on 2 different charges. One of them is the charge of insulting the President, which first triggered the investigation. The indictment for this file has been prepared. The case will be heard on April 29 at the 35th Criminal Court of First Instance.
"THE SECOND INDICTMENT IS NOT READY YET"
The second charge, and the file for which we have been waiting for the indictment for over 2 months, is the charge of inciting the public to hatred and anger. We were expecting this indictment to be prepared before the holiday. Mr. Özdağ also made his call to be tried. It did not make it in time for the holiday; we expect this indictment to be finished on Monday.
"THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO INVESTIGATE"
The files are now complete. In other words, there is nothing left to investigate regarding the charges. At this point, the indictment should now be prepared. Our roadmap will also take shape after Monday."
