CHP's İmralı decision shocks the AKP! 'What they expected did not happen'

Yesterday, a historic vote was held during the Resolution Commission meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In the vote, a decision was made to send a delegation to the İmralı High-Security Prison to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the separatist terrorist organization PKK. The vote was held behind closed doors and was accepted with a qualified majority of three-fifths of the total number of members.

In the vote, representatives of the AKP, MHP, DEM Party, TİP, and EMEP voted "Yes," while the CHP and the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) did not participate in the vote.

The Democrat Party (DP), the Democratic Left Party (DSP), and HÜDA PAR voted "No." Two members from the New Path (Yeni Yol) group cast "Abstain" votes. The three-fifths ratio was an important threshold for achieving the qualified majority required to pass the decision.

CHP'S DECISION NOT TO GO TO İMRALI SHOCKED THE AKP

Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk emphasized in his column today that the CHP's decision not to go to İmralı created a major shock effect within the AKP.

Öztürk stated in his article: "The CHP's decision not to go to İmralı created a serious impact within the AKP. The AKP did not want to proceed without the support of the CHP, but what they expected did not happen."

This decision by the CHP was found appropriate by a large segment of society. In particular, families of martyrs, veterans, and security personnel in the Southeast welcomed the CHP's stance. This decision also pleased soldiers and police officers who know the reality in the region.
