Claims of autonomy had surfaced after the PKK terrorist organization's decision to dissolve: Response to the allegations

The terrorist organization PKK held its 12th congress between May 5-7 in the region it calls the "Media Defense Areas" in northern Iraq. In the statement regarding the decisions taken at the congress, it was announced that the organization had ended its armed activities and dissolved itself, stating that "activities carried out under the name of PKK have been terminated." The declaration argued that for the decisions to be implemented, Abdullah Öcalan, referred to as "Leader Apo," must guide the process, the right to democratic politics must be recognized, and legal guarantees must be provided.

DMM RESPONDS TO AUTONOMY AND FEDERAL STRUCTURE CLAIMS

Following the aforementioned statement, claims began to spread by some circles on social media that "a transition to an autonomous and federal administration would be made through constitutional amendments following the PKK's dissolution decision." Upon this, the Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) under the Presidency's Directorate of Communications issued a statement via its official social media accounts to inform the public.

"NO DEVIATION FROM THE GOAL OF A TERROR-FREE TURKEY"

The DMM statement included the following expressions:

"The claim that 'an autonomous and federal administration will be provided through constitutional amendments following this decision' regarding the PKK congress declaration, in which the decision to lay down arms and dissolve the organization was taken, is disinformation. There is no question of the state administration managing a process based on any bargaining regarding the terrorist organization's decision to lay down arms and dissolve with the goal of a terror-free Turkey."

The statement also touched upon the constitutional amendment efforts on Turkey's agenda:

"The preparatory work for the constitutional amendment on Turkey's agenda is being carried out to meet the need for a civil, democratic, libertarian, and inclusive constitution. Do not give credence to baseless claims aimed at manipulating public opinion."

BAHÇELİ'S MOVE HAD HEATED UP THE AGENDA

Expectations of a new resolution process, which came to the agenda with the claim that Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had made a call for Abdullah Öcalan to lay down arms, had fueled the debates.

The PKK terrorist organization's congress decision came immediately after this development.
