Debate continues over HSK election: His 'grey wolf' sign becomes a talking point

The elections for members of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) became the target of intense criticism over the past political connections of one of the new members, Hakan Yüksel.

CHP İstanbul Deputy Mahmut Tanal reacted to Yüksel's election with a post on social media.

“HERE IS YOUR FULLY INDEPENDENT AND IMPARTIAL JUDICIARY”

Criticizing Yüksel's election to the HSK, Tanal used the following expressions:

“The person you see in these photos;

Is the one who posed making the 'grey wolf' gesture with the President of the Ankara No. 2 Bar Association,

Who had MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter as a wedding witness at his own daughter's wedding,

Who is the Deputy Head of the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, which issued a dissenting opinion regarding Can Atalay despite the Constitutional Court's ruling of rights violation,

And most importantly, is Hakan Yüksel, who was elected as an HSK member last night!

Here is your fully independent and impartial judiciary…”

HARSH RESPONSE FROM YÖNTER

The response to the CHP deputy's criticisms came from MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter. Quoting Tanal's post, Yönter used the following harsh expressions on his social media account:

“Mr. Tanal, let me remind you of a famous saying: An ill-mannered camel does not enter the house…

Does it bother you? If you have a stomach ache or if you have lost sleep, go rest at your home…

Do not aspire to be a storyteller in the vaudeville of politics…

Try to be a decent person, of course, if your character and level allow it…”
