The promotion regulation that retirees have been waiting for for months has been shelved. It had been claimed that a new protocol would be signed between the Social Security Institution (SGK) and banks in March, and that promotion amounts could rise up to 40 thousand liras.
However, SGK sources announced that no new protocol will be signed with banks this year.
According to information journalist Olcay Aydilek based on reliable SGK sources, there will be no centralized regulation regarding retiree promotions, and each bank will provide promotions at the amount it determines itself.
This development dashed the expectations of millions of retirees while signaling that promotions would not see an increase.
NO INCREASE EXPECTED FROM PUBLIC BANKS
In the current practice, retirees benefit from promotions by committing to receive their salaries from the same bank for three years.
While public banks offer promotions of 8 thousand, 10 thousand, and 12 thousand TL depending on the salary amount, this figure can go up to 27 thousand TL at private banks.
Due to the lack of a new agreement with the SGK, it is stated that public banks Ziraat Bankası, Halkbank, and Vakıfbank will not make any increases in promotions. It is expressed that private banks may organize campaigns in line with their own initiatives.
This development became a new disappointment for retirees who received low raises in January. While a limited increase was expected in the holiday bonuses to be paid in March, the cancellation of promotion negotiations dashed the expectations of retirees.
