Even a pro-government columnist couldn't take it anymore and called for their release!

The health problems in prison of manager Ayşe Barım, who is detained as part of the Gezi Park trial, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık have been on the agenda for days. While it is stated that both individuals have serious health problems, requests for their release are also ongoing before judicial authorities regarding their medical conditions.

Pro-government columnist Cem Küçük made an open call in his column today stating that Barım and Çalık should be released. Arguing that "being on trial is one thing, a medical condition is another," Küçük maintained that both individuals should be released so they can access treatment.

In his column, Cem Küçük said, "There is no need for us to harbor hostility toward people whose political views are opposite to ours. We don't harbor it anyway. Being on trial is one thing, taking a stance in the case of illness is another. Let both individuals receive treatment. Their release would not harm the cases. No one is being given special treatment; it is entirely a humanitarian situation," emphasizing that the health conditions of Barım and Çalık should be taken into consideration.

AYŞE BARIM'S HEALTH CONDITION

Ayşe Barım, who is being tried while detained in the Gezi Park case, faces a risk of sudden death due to heart and brain ailments. Her lawyers state that Barım has experienced significant weight loss in prison and argue that she should be released due to her health problems. On July 11, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested a report to determine whether there was any obstacle to Barım remaining in prison. Subsequently, Barım's health condition, for which she was referred to the Council of Forensic Medicine on July 17, was supported by medical reports submitted to judicial authorities.

Barım's health condition worsened further after she was found unconscious in her ward on June 5. Her lawyers filed a request for her release, stating that she faces a risk of sudden death due to her heart and brain ailments.

MURAT ÇALIK'S HEALTH PROBLEMS

Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık was arrested as part of an Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) operation and continues to experience serious health problems in prison. Çalık had bone marrow extracted for the second time in prison due to suspected lymphoma and had experienced significant weight loss.

Çalık, who underwent an angiogram some time ago due to health problems, fell ill again and was operated on to be referred to the Council of Forensic Medicine for the second time for bone marrow findings. While Çalık's health condition remains serious, his release is being requested so that he can receive treatment outside of prison.
