Following the arrest of Selahattin Yılmaz, whom MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli defended by calling him his "fellow idealist" and "comrade," on charges of leading an armed criminal organization, and the detention of former MKE Board Chairman İsmet Sayhan, rumors of a "rift in the People's Alliance" have surfaced.
Bahçeli, however, rejected these claims with harsh words.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is currently imprisoned in Silivri Prison, made striking assessments regarding the latest developments in a letter sent through his lawyers.
Stating that he does not agree with the claims that there is a rift between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, Altaylı remarked, "The relationship between Bahçeli and Erdoğan will not break."
In the remainder of his letter, Altaylı suggested that MHP leader Bahçeli, the architect of the new solution process dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey,' could end the process for the sake of Erdoğan.
Altaylı commented, "It seems to me that Bahçeli could even end the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process he initiated himself for the sake of Erdoğan, and the two partners would start marketing this as a 'domestic and national' pivot, and rest assured, they would find customers for it too."
Stating that the problem that might arise due to the arrest of Selahattin Yılmaz and the detention of İsmet Sayhan is not an unsolvable one, Altaylı continued as follows:
"As you can see, no black cat will come between Erdoğan and Bahçeli. That partnership does not look like it will last only until the market closes. Those making political calculations should know this and calculate accordingly."
