Turkey began the day with news of a tragedy. Two people lost their lives in a fire that broke out at the Kervansaray Hotel in Uludağ, which had been closed due to a lack of a tourism operating license; the fire has since been brought under control. According to initial information, the fire started during the night on the veranda at the back of the hotel. Successive statements were issued by the hotel and the Bursa Governor's Office.
THE WHOLE FAMILY AFFECTED BY SMOKE
It was reported that 12 people who worked at the hotel and the ski center below it were in the building during the fire. A ski instructor, his wife, and his son were affected by the smoke.
FATHER AND CHAMPION SKIER SON LOST THEIR LIVES
Yahya Usta, President of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association, who was removed from the hotel—which had reportedly been ordered to be evacuated by the court—in an unconscious state, along with his wife Fikriye and his son Berkin Usta, a champion skier who represented Turkey at the Beijing Olympics, were taken to the health center in Uludağ. Despite medical intervention, Yahya Usta and Berkin Usta could not be saved.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Berkin Usta had shared stories on his Instagram account hours earlier.
In one of the stories, Usta was seen filming a burning fireplace.
