Fatih Altaylı shares a note that serves as a 'confession' from an AKP member! 'We are facing two AK Parties...'

Detained journalist Fatih Altaylı, in a letter sent to his own YouTube program, made assessments regarding the resignation of Mücahit Birinci from the AKP following the IMM Exchange scandal and the conflicts within the AKP.

Altaylı drew attention to the manner of Birinci's resignation:

“In this first act of the Mücahit Birinci and IMM Exchange scandal, the only positive thing to be written to Mr. Mücahit's account was that he showed the courage to say 'I am resigning' directly, instead of breaking with an AKP tradition by saying 'I request to be excused from party membership.' I congratulate him. Such courage in these times. Bravo indeed. By the way, I am not curious about how much tax this lawyer, who throws millions of dollars around, has paid. We must also say that all these developments have clarified a picture that we knew but that everyone now sees. Perhaps we even need to interpret this thoroughly. If not now, I will do so in the coming days.”

In his letter, Altaylı pointed to the division within the AKP and wrote the following:

“With the Mücahit Birinci incident, an undeniable truth has been thrust before our eyes. We are facing two AK Parties. The old AK Party and the new AK Party. And these two are in conflict with each other. The incompatibility and infighting between them is at least as intense as the fight directed outward, and sometimes even fiercer. The intra-party reactions toward Birinci and his cronies showed this very clearly. Of course, the fact that there are AKP figures behind the ban imposed on the social media account of one of the two or three most disgusting trolls also points to this old AK Party-new AK Party fight.”

Altaylı also shared a note in his letter that was conveyed to him from within the AKP:

“Some time ago, one of the important names of the AK Party conveyed a note to me. A former AK Party member, but still an important name. What he said and conveyed is this:

‘There has been an operation carried out against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for months. The judiciary is conducting this operation, but we cannot explain to anyone that this is the work of an independent judiciary. They won't believe it. We are doing our best to make them believe it. We are doing something very, very wrong. Do not misunderstand me. I am not saying there is or isn't anything in the IMM or other municipalities. That is not my job, but all of this could have been done much more properly. These mayors could have been tried without arrest. Were dawn raids necessary? Were these mayors going to flee? Everyone, including our own party members, knows they wouldn't have fled. They should have been tried without arrest. Again, the public asks, are these only CHP municipalities? Because every citizen has events they have experienced or witnessed. If the trials were without arrest, the results of these trials, whether favorable or unfavorable, would be more credible. Now, whatever the result, there will be a credibility problem. This matter was managed very poorly. It caused the most harm to us,’ he said.

“WHEN THIS NOTE WAS CONVEYED, THE ÇERÇİOĞLU INCIDENT HAD NOT YET HAPPENED”

These words are not surprising, and in fact, this is more or less the summary of this long note. There are many people within the ruling party who think this way. The reason why the pro-government trolls say we are not being supported and that only we are talking about these processes lies here. The number of AKP members who think that the way things are done, if not the things themselves, is wrong is not small. They just don't speak up. Of course, silence is not the right attitude either, but I cannot blame them. They are also afraid.

Let me also say this. When this note was conveyed to me, the Çerçioğlu incident had not yet happened. The 3 billion TL 'AKP transition bonus' obtained by the Çerçioğlu family from Jantsa shares had not yet emerged.”

In his letter, Altaylı also touched upon the atmosphere of hopelessness in the opposition:

“There is a significant sense of hopelessness, a kind of hostage syndrome, in a segment of the opposition. Namely, they do not believe that the government in Turkey will change. A segment that says, 'This order will not change.' This stems somewhat from the government's attempt to display a confident stance and its refusal to refrain from excessively displaying its power. I think this is an insult to Turkey.

I don't know if the government will win or lose this first election, but I am sure of this: If a government is to change in Turkey, it will change at the ballot box, and if Kılıçdaroğlu had not insisted on his candidacy, the government would have changed in 2023. We wouldn't be talking about all of this today, and if the government changes, the old AK Party will continue to exist, but the new AK Party will withdraw from politics.”

Altaylı concluded his letter by explaining the transformation of the AKP:

"Because the old AK Party was a center party gathered around principles. The new AK Party, on the other hand, is a political formation gathered around power and the opportunities provided by power. When power ends, the system collapses, and those types gather around the new power center. This may have even started now. This is not a prediction, but information. A troll, one of the sycophants of the new AK Party circle, has been frequently calling CHP deputies in recent months, providing information and gossip from both within the AK Party and the judicial bureaucracy. This is an effort to curry favor with the new masters who will feed them in preparation for a change in the balance of power visible on the horizon. Even this is an important sign."
