Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained in a dawn operation yesterday morning as part of an investigation launched into the municipality regarding 'terrorism' and 'corruption' allegations.
Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who shared the information that law enforcement officers had gone to İmamoğlu's home yesterday morning, made assessments regarding the events on his own YouTube channel.
Stating that he cried for 45 minutes after learning of the detention decision issued against İmamoğlu, Altaylı noted the following:

"After waking up yesterday morning and starting to watch the developments, I cried for 45 minutes. I was very upset. I felt something: I understood what our elders who practiced journalism during the September 12 era must have felt. The law has been trampled upon. An attempt has been made against politics by using the law or the judiciary. People's right to vote has been taken away from them. Or an attempt has been made to take it away.
We were so upset that I said, 'What a pity for the children.' I didn't feel sorry for myself. When these children pick up their phones, they see the world. Well, the world isn't exactly bright either, but it's not like here. This means Turkey is entering a different track. It means moving away from democracy. It means moving away from human rights. It means moving away from politics.
