The scale of the tragedy in the forest fire that began in the Gürsu and Kestel districts of Bursa and also threatened the village of Avdancık in Osmangazi was revealed at daybreak.
Only piles of ash remain from the pine-covered forest area in the villages of Karahıdır and İğdir in the Gürsu district and the village of Avdancık in Osmangazi.
The intensity of the fire decreased significantly towards morning as the wind subsided. However, while there are occasional flare-ups in the region, forestry, firefighting, and municipal teams remain on high alert against the possibility of the wind triggering the flames again.
The fire, which turned more than 100 hectares of land in Bursa into ash and caused the evacuation of 1,765 people in 485 households across 3 villages, was largely extinguished after the dedicated efforts of teams throughout the night.
Drone footage recorded by IHA teams in the villages of İğdir and Narlıdere shows that the pine-covered forest area has turned gray.
The flames were suppressed following firefighting efforts throughout the night, in which around a thousand public personnel, municipal workers, and volunteers participated. What remains of the burned forest are smoldering scenes and grayed-out pine trees.
It has been learned that Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu, who directed the operations from the crisis center in Bursa throughout the night, will conduct an inspection of the region by helicopter.
It was also learned that the fire was intercepted before it could reach the residential area in the evacuated village of Avdancık in the Osmangazi district.
