An important regulation is coming for civil servant mothers and fathers. The right to part-time work, which provides flexibility in childcare, is being prepared to be implemented with a new regulation.

This right, which was added to the Civil Servants Law in 2016 but has not been implemented for 8 years, will be re-regulated and put into effect within the scope of the Year of the Family.

According to the new regulation, civil servants who give birth or adopt a child will be able to work part-time until their children start primary school. However, during this process, the civil servant's salary will also be halved. Officials state that this offers a great opportunity, especially for employees who want to devote more time to childcare.

According to the report by NTV, it is stated that this regulation will be implemented within the framework of certain rules to ensure that it does not cause disruptions in public service while providing flexibility to working parents.

PART-TIME WORK PERIOD BEGINS FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

Civil servants who give birth or adopt a child will be able to work part-time until their children start primary school. However, only one of the spouses will be able to benefit from this right.

When the right to part-time work is used:

The civil servant's salary will be halved.

Working hours will be 20 hours per week instead of 40.

Options for full-time work on certain days of the week or partial work every day will be offered.

This regulation will ensure the implementation of the law that has not been applied for 8 years.

PART-TIME WORK OPTIONS

According to the new draft regulation, civil servants will be able to choose between two different work models:

1. Working full-time for 3 days a week.

2. Working 5 days a week, for at least 3 hours each day.

Authorized supervisors will have the authority to make changes to working hours in January and July.

PART-TIME WORKING MOTHERS WILL NOT BE GRANTED NURSING LEAVE

According to the draft, civil servants who want to work part-time must submit their applications in writing at least 1 month in advance. However, mothers who benefit from this right will not be granted nursing leave.

Civil servants who adopt children will also be able to benefit from the same rights, and this right can be used separately for each child.

The prepared draft regulation has been opened for consultation. The Ministry of Family and Social Services will give the regulation its final form, and after it enters into force, civil servants will be able to officially benefit from this right.
