The investigation into the attempted physical attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel is deepening. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has taken new steps regarding Selçuk Tengioğlu, who was detained following the attack that took place in front of the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM).
It has been learned that within the scope of the investigation, MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board) and HTS (telephone signal and call traffic) records have been requested to examine the attacker's financial transactions and communication traffic.
It was stated that the prosecutor's office has issued a warrant to request data from the relevant institutions and that a new assessment will be made after the records are examined.
DETENTION PERIOD EXTENDED, STATEMENT NOT YET TAKEN
Özgür Özel, who attended a memorial ceremony held at the AKM for Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, was physically attacked as he was leaving the ceremony.
The police procedures for 66-year-old Selçuk Tengioğlu, who was detained following the punch attack, are still ongoing.
Within the scope of the investigation, Tengioğlu's detention period was extended by one day. However, the suspect's official statement has not yet been taken. Police units will take new steps in line with the prosecutor's directives following the arrival of the MASAK and HTS reports in the investigation file.
MURDER HISTORY HAD EMERGED
According to information reflected to the public after the attack, it was learned that Selçuk Tengioğlu had killed his two children in 2004 and had been imprisoned for this reason. It was stated that Tengioğlu, who remained in prison for approximately 16 years, was later released on parole.
