41-year-old businessman İlhan Arık arrived at the 15 July Martyrs Bridge on Friday around 14:00, stopped his vehicle, and threw himself into the Bosphorus.
Upon notification by citizens who witnessed the incident, the Istanbul Fire Department Underwater Search and Rescue (İSAK), Coast Guard, and Marine Police teams quickly took action.
As a result of the search efforts, Arık's lifeless body was found near the Ortaköy Pier. Medical teams determined that Arık had lost his life. The tragic news left his family and loved ones in mourning.
The program in which İlhan Arık was a guest on the Haberler.com YouTube channel in January 2024, where he described the difficulties in his life, has come to the agenda again following the incident.
“I GREW UP AN ORPHAN, I EXPERIENCED THE PAIN OF LOSING A CHILD”
Arık had used the following expressions in the program:
“I never knew my father; he was found dead at home. I grew up an orphan. I held onto life with other people's clothes. I lost my 3-month-old son due to hospital negligence. Since I didn't know a father's love, I wanted my son to experience that love, but it didn't happen. I cried for days by the cradle. We survived the 1999 earthquake in Sakarya from under the rubble. At 14, I pulled out lifeless bodies with my own hands. I fought alone throughout my life. I have two daughters now. May God not let anyone experience the pain of losing a child.”
